Grants To Help Preserve Alamance Battleground Site

Thanks to a grant from the state’s Clean Water Management Trust Fund and matching private donations, Alamance Battleground State Historic Site will soon acquire two adjacent tracts of land that will further preserve this important site.

Alamance Battleground State Historic Site preserves the legacy of the May 16, 1771, Battle of Alamance when almost 2,000 backcountry farmers, mostly unarmed, confronted a 1,000-man royal militia of colonial Governor William Tryon.
