Incredible People

December 13, 2018

Late Saturday evening my home lost electricity. That was not unusual here in Transylvania County. Lots of our neighbors found themselves living back in the 19th century. We had to gather up snow to melt for doing the most mundane things… like flushing toilets. It was, to be certain, an adventure of sorts for many people. Sadly, it is not an adventure for everyone. For some people, bad weather is more than bad luck. It is potentially deadly.

What really gets me though, is the dedication to do the dangerous, and all too often, thankless work of the Department of Transportation, Duke Energy, safety and law enforcement employees. These incredible people, some our neighbors, some from neighboring states, worked in earnest in the cold and wet 24/7 to begin the business of restoring safe roads and essential electric service to all of us.

Customers, especially those with medical problems, can find their fragile lives at risk. Too, the men and women who try to restore power to all of us, put their own lives at risk to do so! Too, our rescue and law enforcement officers, put themselves in harm’s way, doing their jobs for the betterment of all.

On behalf of my wife and myself, I would like to thank the employees of the Department of Transportation (local and state) and the employees of Duke Power for their work. We all have much for which to be thankful!
