The Transylvania Times -

Responding To Bad Weather

December 13, 2018

As of Wednesday morning, there were many people in this county without power or stranded at home because their roads are impassable. That, however, is not due to any lack of effort by local fire/rescue squads, law enforcement, emergency personnel, road crews and power company employees.

Ever since the storm arrived last Saturday, these people have been working 24 a hours to day clear roads, remove down trees, pull vehicles from ditches and even drive four-wheelers up steep mountain roads to residents with medical needs who could not be reached by ambulance. In the first 72 hours, the Brevard Fire Department had responded to more than 70 calls. Volunteers from North Transylvania and Little River Fire Departments helped put out a structure fire in Mills River. All of this work has been done in cold, inclement weather – weather the rest of us have done our best to avoid.

We sincerely thank and appreciate all of those people who have ventured out in this weather to save life and property and to help restore electricity and our lives to normal. For them we are extremely grateful.
