On Saturday, Dec. 15, members of the Transylvania County Honor Guard and their special guests celebrated the Christmas season in military style at the Brevard VFW, decorated for the holidays by the VFW Auxiliary. Dress uniforms did not hamper the Honor Guard members as they boogied, twisted, and shagged with spouses and guests to the good old fashioned rock and roll tunes spun by DJ extraordinaire, Rick Selimos. Attendees enjoyed a delicious prime rib dinner catered by Daggie's.

The evening featured a raffle of 27 exciting door prizes contributed to the Honor Guard by generous Brevard retailers.

"We're extremely gratified by the support of our local businesses," said Howard "Sarge" Thiele, Honor Guard Commander. "We wish to express our thanks to Belk Department Store, Theophilus, Bracken Mountain Bakery, Larry's Auto Supply, Jiffy Lube, WNC Military History Museum, Moore-Blanchard Funerals and Cremations, Fitness Factory, Ktchn, Maya's Grill, Dunkin' Donuts, Pisgah Fish Camp, Cedar Mountain Café, Harris Hardware, Tractor Supply, Broad Street Wines, Bear Arms, Twin Dragons, Charlie's Tire, Diamond Rush, Moody-Connolly Funeral Home, Falls Landing, Mayberry's, Grammy's, and several anonymous donors. It's a privilege to serve this fine community."
