Shutdown Impacts Forest Service

An automated email reply Wednesday from Alice Cohen, a U.S. Forest Service spokesperson, reads “due to the lapse in federal government funding I am on furlough without access to email. I will return your message as soon as possible once funding has been restored.”

The federal government shutdown began at midnight on Dec. 22.

The U.S. Forest Service’s main website,, shows a large red banner at the top of the home page, reading that once funding has been reestablished, online operations will continue.
