The Everydays

Songwriter/guitarists Tim Marsh and David Zoll, appearing as The Everydays, will perform at the White Horse in Black Mountain on Friday, Jan. 4, at 8 p.m.

Marsh plays with Chalwa, The Asheville Horns, and Wiseapple (reggae, New Orleans funk and bluegrass, respectively), and Zoll performs with his own rock band DZO, Cajun/zydeco outfit Bayou Diesel and classic country purveyors The Old Chevrolette Set.

They first played together in an electric band that performed Marsh's original songs, but the realization that they shared an appreciation for acoustic roots music and vocal harmonies led to the formation of The Everydays in 2012. The duo's sound has been described as "Americana with an indie edge," driven by the strong guitar skills of both members and seamless two-part harmonies, simultaneously classic and fresh.

The Everydays' self-titled debut CD was a collection of original songs from the pens of both artists, a stripped down affair recorded mostly live with no overdubs.

Their 2016 release, "When It's All Over," also started off with just two guitars and voices, but other musicians came in later to add tracks after Zoll and Marsh had a chance to reflect on the final form of the nine songs. Although the new record sports bass, drums and Dobro on most tracks, the Everydays stick with the acoustic duo format for live performances. "Logistics are easy with two guys," said Zoll.
