When she was 7, a friend on her school bus said to her, “you killed our Lord.”

“I did not.”

“Yes, you did,” the girl insisted. “Our priest said so.”

Amy-Jill Levine’s friend had been taught that the Jews were responsible for the death of Jesus. Since she was the only Jew her friend knew, obviously Amy-Jill was guilty. She didn’t know at the time why the priest made such a charge and too young to challenge that view.
