Rescues Required During Torrential Rains - Brevard NC

The two donkeys stand under a shelter as efforts are made to rescue them on Dec. 28.

The torrential rains the county suffered at the end of 2018 led to the rescue of a woman and two donkeys in separate incidents.

On Friday, Dec. 28, a woman drove around a barricade on Davidson River Road and into floodwaters underneath the railway trestle, said Dale Whitlock, the Transylvania County Rescue Squad's chief. She became trapped in her Jeep from the pressure of the water, and she had to call 911 about 12:15 p.m. from inside her vehicle.
