Support Given To Update Farmland Ordinance

There was unanimous support among those who spoke during a public hearing Tuesday on a proposed update of the county’s Voluntary Agriculture District (VAD) ordinance.

The public hearing was held during the Transylvania County Board of Commissioners’ regular meeting. Commissioners will vote on the update at a later meeting.

A VAD is a property that has been voluntarily entered into an agreement between the county and the landowner. In the agreement, the landowner voluntarily decides to keep his or her land as farmland for 10 years. The program’s primary goal is to create awareness...
