The amount of money poured into college athletics is astronomical. It’s not just the head coaches in football and basketball who have multi-million dollar contracts. In 2015, according to USA Today, nine assistant college football coaches had annual salaries of $1 million or more.

Coaches, however, are just part of the high price of college athletics. Dozens of Division I schools have indoor practice facilities, even though their games are played outdoors. Those facilities cost millions of dollars.
