Retirement Reception Planned For Pulliam

January 17, 2019

After more than 19 years heading the local United Way, Steve Pulliam is retiring. A retirement reception will be held on Jan. 27 in the Silvermont mansion.

The Board of Directors of United Way of Transylvania County (UWTC) invites its friends in the community to attend a retirement reception in honor of Steve Pulliam from 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m., on Sunday, Jan. 27, in the Silvermont mansion.

Pulliam officially ends his more than 19-year tenure as chief executive officer of United Way of Transylvania County on the last day of January.

People who have felt the positive impact of United Way programs in the past 19 years are invited to record personal messages to Pulliam and "thanks to United Way" messages in a special video booth during the reception.

"We're looking for a little help from the community to help make this event truly represent all that United Way of Transylvania County has accomplished with Steve at the helm," said Board Chair Terry Decker.

As a treat for United Way friends, Transylvania Heritage Museum volunteers will provide guided tours of Silvermont mansion's second floor museum. Event food is sponsored by Mayberry's of Brevard. Overflow parking will be available at the St. Philips Episcopal Church and Comporium lots.

In lieu of retirement gifts, Pulliam asks that individuals support neighbors in need through UWTC. Even with his retirement rapidly approaching, he wants to make sure that people are aware of the ways that UWTC supports local individuals and nonprofit agencies.

A donor will match up to $20,000 of pledges made in honor of Pulliam's retirement. Pledges must be new or for increased amounts to be eligible for the match fund.

"I'd like to see the match fund in honor of Steve totally committed by the end of January. I think our community has the resources and the heart to take this to the max," said Board Member Adam Perkins.

To make a qualifying pledge, go to http://www.unitedwaytransylvania.org, email Saunders Grommesh at [email protected], or complete a pledge form at the retirement reception.
