Strike Out Childhood Cancer At Rockin' Bowl Tournament

January 28, 2019

Rockin’ Bowl, along with St. Baldrick’s of Transylvania County, will host the 3rd annual Strike Out Childhood Cancer bowling tournament on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $20 per person, or $100 for a team up to 10 folks. So far, 15 teams have been confirmed. All proceeds will go to St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants worldwide. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer and donor powered charity committed to supporting the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. The Found-ation is known for its signature head-shaving events where volunteers shave their heads to raise funds for childhood cancer research.

The teams include Southern Roots Salon, Carpet and More, Brevard Fire Department, Brevard Police Department, DD Bullwinkel’s, Fyzical Therapy and Balance Center, Charlie’s Tire, Holmes Team, Brevard College Artist Guild Alumni, Ecusta Brewing Company, Oskar Blues Brewing, the Jr. Kramer family and New PECO. The public is also invited to come and view the tournament. There will be a DJ, karaoke and a 50/50 raffle.

Like last year, this year’s event is organized by Barbara Ritchey of Pisgah Forest, whose daughter, Becky, is a childhood cancer survivor. The bowling tournament is only one of many fundraisers leading up to the main event on June 29 at Ecusta Brewing Company. That is when they will be shaving heads of volunteers to raise money for critical, life-saving research for children with cancer, such as Sophie Hannah, Holmes Desmelik and Julia Israel.
