Filling The Insurance Gap

Thousands of people in North Carolina who live below the federal poverty level are receiving no assistance when it comes to health insurance.

When the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was passed, proponents of the plan assumed states would agree to expand Medicaid coverage because the federal government would pick up 100 percent of the tab through 2016 and at least 90 percent of the tab through 2020. Since the ACA passed, 37 states have chosen to expand Medicaid coverage; North Carolina has not.
