Roy Leon Compton, 90, of Ft. Wayne, Ind., passed away Jan. 31, 2019.

He was born July 10, 1928, in Brevard, to Freeman and Mamie (Tinsley) Compton.

He played sports in high school and also on company work teams. He enjoyed all kinds of sports, also gardening, hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Carl Compton, and sister, Mary Reid. He is survived by his wife of 70 ½ years, Ann Z. Compton, of Ft. Wayne; son, James F. Compton, of Cumberland City, Tenn .; daughter, Susan Compton Stahl (Douglas), of Ft. Wayne; grandchildren, Nicky, Carter and Stephanie; a host of great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Lewis, of Birmingham, Ala., and Joe and Charles, both of Brevard.

A memorial service will be held at a later date with burial in Brevard.

Cremation arrangements are being handled by the Neptune Society.
