Entering Tuesday night, the Brevard Lady Blue Devils were hoping to score a win against the conference-leading Smoky Mountain Mustangs and possibly go on to steal the Mountain Six title.

Unfortunately, an off night shooting from the floor and turnovers that led to easy points in transition for the Mustangs got in the way of that plan, as Brevard fell 63-54.

It was a back-and-forth game all night, with Smoky not pulling away until the final minutes.

Cassidee Cali started off the first quarter by knocking down a pair of 3-pointers.

Another trey from Reagan Eggleston tied things up at 13 before Smoky took a 15-13 lead into the second quarter.

Brevard had plenty of good looks early in the game, but the shots just weren't falling.

In the second quarter, the Mustangs took over the transition game, scoring quickly off turnovers, as well as long defensive rebounds.

Eggleston and Cali stayed hot for Brevard, as both players continued knocking down shots to keep the Lady Blue Devils close.

Brevard trailed 21-19 with 6:00 to go in the second quarter before Smoky converted a four-point play, followed by two more points off a turnover to make it 27-21.

The Mustangs held a 37-29 lead at halftime.

The third quarter was a little tight for both sides, but the Lady Blue Devils scored four straight fast-break points to cut it to a three-point game.

Trailing 44-39 entering the final quarter, a 3-pointer from Emma Berry cut Brevard's deficit to one point.

From there, both sides started trading baskets, including back-to-back 3-pointers on consecutive possessions, as it remained a one-point game, 49-48, with 4:15 left to play.

But after a bucket for Smoky and an empty Brevard possession, the Mustangs knocked down a trey to make it 54-48.

Try as they might, the Lady Blue Devils never got it back to a one-possession game.

Smoky stretched their lead to nine points with under two minutes to go off another turnover and held on for the win.

The loss drops Brevard's record to 13-6 and 4-4 in the conference.

The Lady Blue Devils are still the team only conference team to defeat the Mustangs, who can wrap up the regular season conference title with a win in either of their final two Mountain Six games.
