Good teachers and administrators are the backbone of any successful school. Yet, North Carolina, including Transylvania County, faces some daunting challenges to recruit and retain quality teachers.

Some of the challenges facing North Carolina have been self-induced. While pay in the state has increased some in recent years, it has not kept pace with other adjacent states and teachers with the most experience have received virtually no raise.
