Water Service Announces Untreated Wastewater Discharge in Lake Atagahi

Carolina Water Service, Inc. of North Carolina (CWSNC) had a discharge of untreated wastewater from its Connestee Falls lift station of approximately 2,000 gallons.

The discharge occurred on Jan. 23 for approximately one hour. The untreated wastewater entered into Lake Atagahi, which is located in the Carson Creek Basin. White hydrated lime was applied to the affected area to raise the pH and kill any pathogenic organisms. There was no known impact to public health

This notice is required by North Carolina general statutes. The N.C. Division of Water Quality was notified Feb. 18, according to requirements.
