President Trump pledged to eliminate the national debt “over a period of eight years.” But instead, for the first time in history, the national debt has surpassed $21 trillion, going up $2 trillion since he took office.

And, the deficit has increased 77 percent since Sen. McConnell became GOP majority leader in 2015. Trump, Sen. McConnell and the GOP claimed in selling the 2017 tax plan that “it will pay for itself,” which was, of course, always impossible.
