Bingo will be held Saturday, March 23, at the VFW Post 4309 on Nicholson Creek Road in Brevard (50 Veterans Circle). Doors open at 5 p.m., and food and packet sales start at 5:30 p.m. Packets are $25 for regular and special games. Early birds start at 6:30 p.m. and regular games at 7 p.m. Food includes a hot dog plate, with beans and potato salad, for $2.25. The contact number for the VFW is (828) 883-9734.

Mystery Dinner At The VFW

On Saturday, March 30, starting at 5:30 p.m., the VFW is having a Mystery Dinner based on a St. Patrick’s theme, “Who Stole the Pot of Gold.” The characters are leprechauns and fairies and all are invited. The event is $20 per person and includes dinner. For more information, contact (828) 883-9734.

Easter At Lake Toxaway

It is time to think about Easter and that means time for the Easter Egg Hunt at Lake Toxaway Community Center. If you are willing to donate candy for this year’s event, contact Jan at 966-9288.

Quebec Community Center

Keep Lavern Moore in your prayers. She has had surgery this week. We hope that she is going to be feeling better soon. The person to contact for the Quebec Community Center is Ann Hendrix at 862-4974.

Special Military Day

Work continues on the Special Military Day planned for the summer at the Lake Toxaway Community Center. Continue to send photos of those killed in the line of active duty throughout Transylvania to Jan Plemmons at 966-9288. There will be more information to come on this event.

Walking Group On Tuesdays

A walking group, which meets at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, has started at the community center.


As mentioned before, we are getting ready to start up with the Lake Toxaway Quilt Group again in the spring. We will have to work on a place if the small building is not ready in time. We hope to begin meeting again on Tuesday mornings again, starting the first of May. The group meets at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All levels of quilters are invited. The library’s bookmobile will visit the following locations on the first Wednesday of every month: Quebec Community Center, 10 a.m. to noon; Lake Toxaway Post Office, 1 to 2:30 p.m .; and Sapphire Post Office, 3 to 5 p.m. You can pick up or return books at any location. Contact Brenda Ivers at 884-3151 ext. 6 if you are homebound about possible book delivery.

Senior Lunch Program

The senior lunch program at Quebec Community Center offers a nutritious lunch, fellowship and games between 10 a.m. and noon, Monday to Friday, to anyone in the Toxaway, Quebec and Silversteen communities who are 60 or older. Transportation is available. Contact Pam McCall from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at (828) 862-4466. Reservations should be made a day ahead.
