WWII Veterans Are Honored At Blue Ridge Bakery

When the young staff of Blue Ridge Bakery were invited to meet two World War II veterans on March 30, they came out with their hands extended to shake the hands of George Sarros and Harold Wellington. The two veterans were taking a lunch break during the filming of a movie about the Veterans History Museum of the Carolinas, produced by Film Brevard NC, a movie production company operated by Brevard resident Tammy Hopkins.

WWII veteran Sarros served as a motor machinist on a U.S. Navy LST (Landing Ship, Transport) on D-Day, landing on Normandy Beach on June 6, 1944. The LSTs carried tanks,...
