Lady Blue Devils' Defense Shines In 2-0 Win Over Mustangs

Sydney Gilbert and the Brevard defense came up big all afternoon on Tuesday as the Lady Blue Devils defeated Smoky Mountain 2-0. Gilbert had eight strikeouts and Brevard turned a game-ending double play to preserve the win.

The Brevard Lady Blue Devils came into Tuesday's home game against Smoky Mountain with a lineup full of red-hot bats.

However, it turned out that pitching and defense were the difference, as Brevard scored twice in the opening inning and held on the rest of the way to blank the Mustangs in a 2-0 victory.

Smoky won the first meeting between the two teams 2-1 and Tuesday's game was another defensive clinic.

Brevard head coach David McNeill said he was proud of his team for winning a tough game and leaning on the defense to close things out.
