Robbing Peter To Pay Paul

 For the past few decades, public school teachers in North Carolina, and across the nation, have been spending their own money to pay for classroom supplies, which have been cut in recent years, to meet the basic needs of their students. It was no wonder, then, North Carolina teachers were looking forward to the possibility they would directly receive additional money to buy these necessary items. 

That hope was dashed last week when State Superintendent Mark Johnson and State Sen. Andy Wells introduced SB 580. The bill does not provide any additional funding for classroom supplies. Inst...
