Rescue Made On Horsepasture River

A close call on the Horsepasture River in Gorges State Park led to a successful rescue of two people who were caught in rapid, high waters on Tuesday.

According to Katie Hall, the public information officer for N.C. State Parks, the people rescued were Hannah Eberhardt and Evan Birchmore. The incident occurred just before 11:30 a.m.

Terry Crowe, a lieutenant for the Lake Toxaway Fire and Rescue Department, said Eberhardt went down the 20-foot Turtleback Falls, where it is common for people to slide down in “normal” water levels.
