In her 2016 book, “Educating African-American Students: And How are the Children,” educator Gloria Boutte, relates the standard greeting used among the Masai people of Kenya. Instead of the typical, “Hello, How are you?,” the Masai people greet each other with the question, “And how are the children?” Boutte explains that people of all ages, even those without children of their own, respond, “All the children are well.”
