The New Dixie Storm

The opening night for the Lake Toxaway Community Center is this Friday. Dinner will be pork loin chop, cole slaw, baked beans, home-made dessert of your choice, and iced tea, lemonade or coffee. Soft drinks are $1. Dinner is at 6 p.m., and the music starts at 7 p.m. The band on Friday is The New Dixie Storm, Greenville, S.C., based bluegrass band. Their instrumental and vocal arrangements spring from the soulful traditions and influences of first generation performers like Bill Monroe, The Osborne Brothers, and Flatt and Scruggs.

The band line up for May is: May 10, Mac Anderson and Family; May 17, Nick Chandler and Delivered; May 24, Lynn Goldsmith and the Jeter Mountain Gang; and May 31, Byrds and Crowe. The Bargain Barn at Lake Toxaway Community Center opens Friday, 8 a.m. to noon and 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m .; and Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon. The Bargain Barn will be accepting donations but no clothes, TVs or mattresses. Call Susan at 966-4026 or Jan at (904) 557-1898 to make arrangements for donations before dropping them off.
