Destination Hike: Upper Bearwallow Falls
Last updated 5/21/2019 at 9:23am
This week’s outdoor destination is Upper Bearwallow Falls in Gorges State Park.
Bearwallow Creek meets the Toxaway River after flowing five miles through the state park. In that time it drops roughly 1700 feet in elevation, which make for some beautiful, yet hard to reach, cascades.
Upper Bearwallow Falls could be considered the easiest waterfall to access in the park – a three mile round trip hike on moderate terrain is inviting for kids and inexperienced hikers alike, and the trail head being in close proximity to the visitor’s center means this hike is not too far out there.
