County Announces New Library Director

June 3, 2019

Rishara Finsel of Polk County has been chosen as the new director of the Transylvania County Library.

Finsel, who will replace Anna Yount, who retired, was the director of the Polk County Public Library.

“Transylvania County is a special place and that is reflected in its public library,” Finsel said. “I am honored to join such a strong staff and supportive library community. I look forward to working together to serve the people of Transylvania County.”

Finsel was raised in Bat Cave. She attended Berea College, where she received her undergraduate degree in art and industrial technology management, and attended UNC Greensboro, where she received her master’s in library and information science. Prior to the Polk County library, Finsel worked as the senior librarian for public services at the Flathead County Library System/ImagineIF Libraries in Western Montana.

In February, the county engaged Bradbury-Miller Associates to assist with a nationwide professional search for the Transylvania library director position. County Manager Jaime Laughter formed a search committee to work on the candidate selection process. The search committee included Laughter, county staff, and representatives of the Library Foundation and the Friends of the Library.

“We are excited to have Rishara joining our management team as the library director,” Laughter said. “She brings a strong background in public library services and has demonstrated a commitment to provide the best of library services to the public.”

Finsel will assume the library director position in July.
