Outdoor Destination: High Falls In Nantahala National Forest

This week’s outdoor destination is High Falls, also known as Cullowhee Falls, in neighboring Nantahala National Forest.

Just north of Cashiers, High Falls marks the beginning of the west fork of the Tuckasegee River flowing out of Lake Glenville. When the water is flowing, this waterfall is one of the most impressive in the area. Over 150 feet tall, High Falls has two huge drops with a nice pool in the middle.

Duke Power generates electricity off Lake Glenville and part of their agreement with the state is to open the gates to make for some great whitewater Kayaking down the “Tuck,”...
