Mary Jane Huggins, 95, passed away June 3, 2019, at Transylvania Regional Hospital.

A lifelong resident of Brevard, she was the first child of Leonard and Ada Brown.

She took nursing training at hospitals in Greenville, S.C., and Asheville, then had a long career working with local physicians, beginning with Dr. E.S. English and Dr. Charles Newland, and continuing until her retirement while working with Dr. John Folger.

She married Robert Jason Huggins in 1944 while he was serving in the United States Army during World War II. After the war, they raised three children in Brevard, Robert Louis Huggins, Janice Ellen Huggins (Cox) and Susan Risa Huggins.

Coming from a large family, she was a sister, a cousin, an aunt, a great-aunt, a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother and an all-around great person. All who knew her well will miss her.

Her parents, her husband and three of her six siblings, Hazel Brown Medlin, Robert B. Brown and Patricia Brown Collins, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her three children, Robert and wife, Kathleen, Janice and husband, Dennis, and Susan; three of her siblings, Douglas Brown and wife, Perry, Shirley Brown Arnette and Janice Brown Osborne and husband, Ted; granddaughter, Lisa Cox Cross and husband, Michael; and three great-grandchildren, Marisa, Amber, and Carter Cross.

As she requested, the family will have a private graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity.

Moore-Blanchard Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
