Benefit Bingo

A benefit bingo will be held July 27 at Balsam Grove Community Center for the James McCall family. Food sales begin at 5 p.m. and bingo at 6 p.m. There will also be raffles, a cake auction and a 50/50. On May 29, James was in a severe car accident. He had to undergo several surgical procedures and will be out of work several months as he recovers and has physical therapy. His wife also had surgery on May 1 and had not returned to work when James was injured and will be out of work until mid June. James will need help 24/7, and his boys will be caring for him when Natasha returns to work. They have medical bills, household bills, medications and have two teenage boys to feed. Please come help support them in their time of need.

Vacation Bible School

“Yee Haw” Celebrating God’s Greatest Gift – VBS at the Oak Grove Baptist Church on Kim Miller Road in Quebec. VBS will be held from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m., Friday, June 21; 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, June 22. A waterslide will be held from 1:15 until 2 p.m. VBS will continue at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 23, with a meal at noon.

Heritage Day

Mark your calendar and plan to attend the very special Lake Toxaway Community Center Heritage Day program at 1 p.m. on July 6. This program is to honor the military and to pay special tribute to the 89 Transylvania County service men who lost their lives while serving on active duty. There will be re-enactment groups on the field, and the military museum is going to set up multiple displays and exhibits. The county Honor Guard will open the program and then there will be a few speakers. After the auditorium program, the guests will be free to enjoy the table displays for each of these soldiers and, hopefully, members of their families.

Upper French Broad Riverfest

A free family oriented festival takes place riverside at Rosman’s Champion Park on June 22. Enjoy food trucks, music and lots of activities for kids, including tubing rides, archery, fishing, a scavenge hunt, live reptiles, balloons, face painting and more. A 20-mile team race down the upper French Broad River to support the Transylvania River Stewards will be held on June 22, as well. The race will be limited to 20 teams. Pre-registration and pre-payment is required. Check in at 9:15 a.m. at Headwaters Outfitters. The race will start at 10 a.m.

RYF Bingo And Yard Sale

Rosman Youth Football will hold a bingo on June 22 at Quebec Community Center. The yard sale will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Food sales begin at 4 p.m. and bingo at 6 p.m. Come up and help support the players and cheerleaders. They have some awesome prizes, raffles and cake auctions.

RHS Classes

The RHS class of 1961 meets at 9 a.m. every third Tuesday of the month for breakfast at The Country Skillet. The RHS class of 1962 meets the first Thursday of each month at The Country Skillet. The RHS class of 1963 meets at 9 a.m. on the second Thursday at the Skillet. The RHS class of 1964 meets at 5 p.m. on the second Friday of the month at the Skillet.

Fallen Heroes

“Transylvania County, N.C. Fallen Heroes Remembering Our Soldiers” by Jan Plemmons is a 136-page book that contains the names and personal information of 89 soldiers who lost their lives while serving on active duty. The proceeds from the book’s sale will go toward helping the Lake Toxaway Community Center. The book may be purchased between 5 and 9 p.m. on Fridays at the community center; at Susan Breedlove’s real estate office in Lake Toxaway; or by calling Jan Plemmons at (904) 557-1898. The soft bound with spiral edition costs $25 and $35 for the hardbound edition.
