Children of all ages are invited to attend the Transylvania Farmers’ Market in downtown Brevard this Saturday, June 23, from 8 a.m. to noon for its annual Summerfest for Kids.

The morning’s free event includes:

•Fire truck tours by Brevard Fire Department;

•Free face painting;

• Interactive music for children by Paul Helou;

•Stop by the market information booth to see if you can guess the “Mystery Veggies;”

•Participate in a scavenger hunt around the market and win a prize when you complete it; and

•Activities such as hula hoop, jump rope, create a chalk masterpiece, enjoy breakfast, and shop with lots of local products from great vendors.

Live music will also be provided by Rhiannon & The Relics

Child prodigies add novelty to most musical performances, but it’s even more awe-inspiring to see a recently minted human play traditional music as old as the Appalachian towns from whence it came. At age 16, (she began playing at 6) Rhiannon Ramsey is doing just that — fiddling alongside local string band veterans who make up the Relics: Craig Bannerman (bass), Troy Harrison (banjo, guitar, mandolin, vocals), Scott Owenby (guitar, vocals), Brandon Johnson (mandolin, vocals).

With a focus on the bounty that Transylvania County has to offer, the market has more than 60 vendors offering fresh, locally-grown produce, meat, eggs, honey, cheeses, vinegars and mustard, fermented foods, juices, mushrooms, plants, herbs, cut flowers, baked goods, jams and jellies, hot breakfast items, coffee, prepared foods, and a variety of handcrafted and artisan items from local producers. Throughout the season, the market hosts weekly music, activities for children and special events.

The Transylvania Farmers’ Market is located just off East Main Street behind Comporium at the corner of Johnson and Jordan streets. Visit the website at http://www.TransylvaniaFarmersMarket.com and follow the market on Facebook and Instagram for regular updates.
