Based on several of the comments made in meetings, letters, phone calls and internet postings regarding City Manager Jim Fatland’s mismatched uniform in the Memorial Day Parade and Brevard Fire Chief Bobby Cooper’s subsequent dismissal of two part-time firefighters who criticized Fatland on social media, it is apparent that some people misunderstand the First Amendment right of freedom of speech and employment laws in North Carolina.
