In The Bible Mission

In the Bible Mission meets every Sunday morning at the Cathey’s Creek Community Center (CCCC), Sunday school/ Bible study begins at 10 a.m. and preaching service begins at 11 a.m. Visitors are always welcome.

Golden Family Reunion

The annual Golden Family Reunion will be held at the Cathey’s Creek Community Center on Saturday, July 20, starting at 10 a.m. Bring a covered dish to share and enjoy. Bring memories, stories, and photos, and enjoy the day. Everyone is invited. Crystal Bracken hosts this year’s event.

The family reunion first started in 1971. It has been held at different places, but the family agrees the CCCC is like “home.”

There will be a “bed turning” this Thursday, June 27, at Silvermont mansion at 4 p.m. It will be presented by Transylvania Heritage Museum. This will be a free event; donations will be accepted to benefit the museum. This will be an interesting event with more than 20 quilts shown by local quilters who will tell the story of the quilts.

Quilts were a necessity in bygone days to keep the family warm on cold nights. They were crafted by hand and were a thing of beauty. When someone had made several quilts, she might invite some friends and neighbors for a social event showing off her quilts.

County Quilt

When Transylvania County had its 150th event in 2011, several communities started a County Quilt with lots of people helping. They put many hours into making the quilt. Each community was represented on it. Cathey’s Creek Community Center was proud to be the first to display the quilt at the 2nd Selica School reunion on June 16, 2012.

Plan to attend the Lake Toxaway Community Center Heritage Day program on July 6 at 1 p.m. This program is to honor the military and to pay tribute to the 89 Transylvania County service men who lost their lives while serving on active duty.

Ben Galloway

We were so sorry to hear of the passing of Ben Galloway on June 22. Ben was 41 years old. He was from Rosman and lived in Salem, S.C. Ben is survived by his wife, Wendy, sons Benjamin and Weston, parents Jim and Peggy Cagle Galloway, brother, Chris, and wife, Shannon, niece, Christa and nephew, C.J. He was a lineman for Duke Power. He loved hunting and fishing.

A Celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 29, at Lakeview Baptist Church, 107 Mauldin Lake Road, in Pickens, S.C. at 2 p.m. Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. at the church of which he was a faithful member.

He is now with his Lord and savior. He will be missed. Send many prayers to the family.

Crafty Ladies

The Crafty Ladies meet every Monday at 1 p.m. at the Selica United Methodist Church. Next Monday we will have our monthly luncheon. To wish those who have a birthday in July, we are going to have hot dogs with all the trimmings and cake. Those who are celebrating birthdays are Dorothy Dyer on July 3, Elizabeth Eubanks on July 5, and Marie Cison on July 19.

Other birthdays this week include Beacher Franks on June 29, Silas Gant on June 30 and Larry Johnson on July 3. At Cathey’s Creek Church, Averen and Leah Perry celebrated on June 28 and Mildred Galloway on June 29. Happy birthday to all.

Cathey’s Creek History

We had a very interesting meeting on Monday. We discussed everything under the sun about people and events that happened in the community over the years. We need information about the community to be preserved for future generations.

The Window

Monday evening my neighbor called me to tell me to look out the door toward the church. There was a beautiful rainbow. Its colors were glowing in the clouds that covered part of the middle of the rainbow. Most of it could be seen behind the steeple of the church. The other end dipped into the tree line next to the creek. It faded quickly, but I’m glad she thought to call me. It made my day.

Pray for the Kinsey family in the passing of the mother, Linda. Pray for those who are in nursing facilities, in the hospital, and those who have lost loved ones.
