City Fire Dept. Benefit Being Axed

As the Brevard Fire Department has transitioned from a volunteer staff to paid employees, a long-time benefit will be dropped when the city’s new budget goes into effect July 1.
For more than 20 years, Brevard firefighters who lived within the city limits received free water and sewer and garbage services in return for volunteering, according to Kelley Craig, the city’s human resource director.
