Trivializing Reparations

Jack Matthews trivializes the matter of reparations for descendants of slaves in the United States.

He understands the matter is complex, but he raises so many false flags that one begins to suspect that he has motivations other than complexity.

First, he observes that “500,000 Union soldiers” died to free slaves. The American Battlefield Trust puts the total military losses in the Civil War at 620,000 – from both sides. This same source puts the “killed, wounded, captured, missing” figures at 490,309 for the Confederated States, 596,670 for the United States. If one assumes...
