NCFS Improves Ecosytem At Headwaters Forest – Transylvania County, NC

East Fork Falls on the headwaters of the French Broad River.

Headwaters State Forest is coming up on its one-year anniversary since opening to the public, and, according to state forest ranger Michael Cheek, the public is enjoying the new 6,730-acres of public land and the North Carolina Forest Service (NCFS) is busy working to improve the land's ecosystems.

The new state forest opened to the public in September of 2018, and unlike nearby DuPont State Recreational Forest, Headwaters is primarily being managed as a working forest focusing on conserving the land surrounding the headwaters of the East Fork French Broad River and nearby Savannah River....
