Yard Sale

There will be a huge indoor yard sale in the metal building of the Balsam Grove Community Center from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 27. Come out and shop in the comfort of air conditioning. Breakfast will be available in the brick building. Proceeds go to the upkeep of the community center.


The Transylvania County bookmobile will be at the Balsam Grove Community Center on Saturday, July 27, from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Be sure to come out and get some books to read on these hot days.

Thank You

We had a wonderful jam session Saturday night. Thank you to all those who came out to support this event. The musicians did a wonderful job. A big thanks to all of them and to the kitchen help who prepared a delicious meal.

Bread Of Life Food Truck

The Bread of Life food truck will be at the Balsam Grove Community Center every Wednesday from noon until 1 p.m. They will have plate lunches that you can take home with you. This service is available to anyone in the community.


If you have donations for our yard sales, contact an officer of the community club to meet you at the community center to put it in the building. Items get ruined if they are just dropped at the door, and then we have to pay to have it hauled off. Calls may be made to Bernice Powell at 884-6058 or Carol Gardner at 884-6497.


They have started a playgroup at the Balsam Grove Community Center every Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Melissa Pearl of Community Playgroups is heading this up. For more information, email or call (828) 808-6638.

Silver Sneakers And Zumba

There have been some changes to the Tuesday exercise classes at Balsam Grove Community Center. From 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. there will be balance, equality and stretch class. From 5:35 p.m. to 6:25 p.m. there will be a cardio/weight and bend toning class. The Zumba class will do circuit interval training from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. and balance/gentle yoga from 7:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Classes are free with silver sneakers membership. There is a small charge for the others. Dr. Melissa McCall is the instructor. For more information, contact Bernice Powell at 884-6259.


On Monday, May 13, James McCall was in a severe car accident. He had to undergo multiple surgical procedures and will be out of work for several months as he recovers and has physical therapy. His wife also had surgery on May 1 and had not returned to work when James was injured. The benefit will be at the Balsam Grove Community Center on July 27, with food at 5 p.m. and bingo at 6 p.m. There will be bingo prizes, a hot dog supper, a cake auction, 50/50 tickets and raffles. Thank you so much for everyone who is helping out. We have had a great response and appreciate it so much. We are getting lots of great prizes in some of the raffle items are Ripley’s Aquarium tickets, 5 tons of gravel, load of mulch, a Mary Kay Gift Basket ($145 value), a Scentsy gift basket ($70 value), original art work by Chuck Guffey, a $100 gift certificate to Southern Roofs Hair Salon, one-month unlimited tanning at Tan 360, Craftsman Tool Set, just to name a few.

Family Reunion

Since Mattie McCall passed away her family is trying to get word out to everyone not to forget the family reunion on Aug. 4. The Burton and Roxie Jones McCall Family reunion will be held that day following the morning worship service at Shoal Creek Baptist Church at the Balsam Grove Community Center. Be sure to get the word out to all of your family members, so they will know about the family reunion. Be sure to bring a covered dish to share and a drink and join the family for lunch and fellowship.


Those celebrating an anniversary this week are Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Owen and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lewis, July 28; Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Hall and Mr. and Mrs. James Matherson, July 29. We wish all of these a happy anniversary.


Those celebrating a birthday week are David Owen, July 25; Betty Reid and Ray Von Galloway, July 27; Morgan Sisk, July 31. We wish all of these a happy birthday.

Rent The Community Center

If you would like to rent the Balsam Grove Community Center, call 884-6058 to book the date you want.

Senior Citizens Lunch

For all seniors 60 and older you may go to the Quebec Community Center Monday through Friday for lunch, games, fellowship and fun. If you would like to join them, call Pam McCall at 862-4466 for more information. Everyone seems to have a lot of fun and enjoy the games and fellowship that they have while they are there.

Quebec Community Club

The Quebec Community Club has made some changes to rent the building. For those wanting to rent the building, call Ann Hendrix at (828) 862-4974. It is $50 per day to rent the building.
