Brevard Police Department arrested a man at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon at McDonald’s after he allegedly made threats to shoot an employee when he was asked to stop dumping trash in the restaurant’s dumpster.

Brevard resident George Reynolds, 42, has been arrested with misdemeanor communicating threats.

According to Police Chief Phil Harris, while there were reports Reynolds fired a gunshot after making the threats and witnesses reported hearing something that sounded like a gunshot, law enforcement officers have not found evidence that Reynolds was carrying a firearm.

Harris confirmed law enforcement officers don’t believe the noise was actually a gunshot.

Harris said when officers responded to the call, Reynolds refused to come out of his van.

“We took him out at gunpoint because he had allegedly said that he was going to shoot somebody, and a shot was supposedly heard. When we got him out, we found there was no gun,” Harris said.
