July 29, 2019

Free Rein Center for Therapeutic Riding and Education will host a junior-adult golf tournament on Aug. 9 at Sherwood Forest Golf Course to raise money for student scholarships for the fall riding session that starts Sept. 9.

The “Par for the Horse” tournament will be a captain’s choice, 18-hole scramble on the par-3 golf course. Check in is at 8 a.m. Shotgun start is at a 9 a.m. Mulligan packages will be available for purchase at check-in. Lunch and awards will begin around 1 p.m. The tournament will go on rain or shine.

Cost is $50 per golfer. Adult golfers will be paired with junior golfers, ages 10 to 17, from local school golf programs. Adult golfers are encouraged to sponsor the junior golfers to defray their costs. If adult golfers want to invite young tween or teen golfers whom they know to play with them, they are encouraged to do so. Otherwise, junior golfers will be assigned to each team prior to the tournament.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available at $150 for hole sponsors and $250 for food sponsors.

Brian Lautenschlager, PGA professional and Sherwood Forest Golf Course operator, has “Par for the Horse” brochures in the golf clubhouse, which is open seven days a week. The course is located at Greenville Highway and Cardinal Drive.
