Silvermont To Host Free Mental Health Seminar

July 29, 2019

Silvermont Opportunity Center has been partnering with Vaya Health in Asheville for the past three years in order to bring free mental health seminars to Transylvania County residents. The seminars are led by a member of Vaya’s Geriatric and Adult Specialty Team, which travels throughout Western North Carolina providing community outreach in an effort to educate the community on various topics.

The next seminar will be held on Thursday, Aug. 8, from 10 to 11 a.m.

The topic of the seminar will be Emotional and Behavioral Symptoms Associated with Common Medical Conditions. This seminar will look at the impact of chronic illness on mental health.

Chronic illnesses can have accompanying emotional or mental symptoms that are often not identified and treated. This can negatively impact both quality of life and disease outcomes. This training looks at the frequently occurring emotional symptoms and evidence-based treatments for people living with heart and lung disease, diabetes, thyroid conditions, sleep disorders and more.

This seminar is open to the general public.

Classes will be held at the Silvermont mansion, which is located at 364 E. Main St. in Brevard. To reserve your seat, call 884-3166.
