There's an old cliché in the art world that says that when a sculptor peers into a hunk of wood or stone he can visualize the finished product inside. After that, the conventional wisdom goes, it's just a matter of carving away the extraneous material to reach the inner image.

I asked Jerry Stringham about that. Jerry, 63, is the creator and keeper of the wooden menagerie and the "tiny house" you see every summer in the area off the Greenville Highway next to Connestee Falls Park.
