Too Easy On Virtual Charters

In the spirit of accountability, one would think virtual charter schools that have an exceedingly high withdrawal rate and are consistently low-performing would not be given more latitude than other charter or traditional public schools. But that has not been the case here in North Carolina.

As part of a pilot program, in 2015 the North Carolina General Assembly approved appropriations for two virtual charter schools – North Carolina Virtual Academy and North Carolina Connections Academy, now called North Carolina Cyber Academy.
