Saturday Festival Will Celebrate 'Jameson's Joy' – Brevard, NC

August 8, 2019

On Saturday, the Brevard Lumberyard will welcome 10 local music acts and music fans over the afternoon and into the evening in support of Jameson’s Joy Memorial Service Foundation, a Brevard-based charity focused on performing random acts of kindness.

The brainchild of Foundation founder Dan Courtine, Jameson’s Joy Music Festival will run noon to 10 p.m. and will benefit the charity’s vision to build an American Ninja Warrior-style playground in Transylvania County, to establish a mentoring program for children, to connect parents and their children through reading and to create a culture of kindness among people living in communities, large and small, throughout the world.

Music styles performed at the festival will range from 1970s rock to Americana to country to rock ‘n roll, with performances happening every hour, on the hour.

All performers are donating their time to this cause.

The schedule of performances includes:

•noon-12:45 p.m. – Riversong-Mills River UMC

•1-1:45 p.m. – Kristen Toole

•2-2:45 p.m. – Spalding Mcintosh

•3-3:45 p.m. – Nicole and Naoto

•4-4:45 p.m. – Marq-Paul

•5-5:45 p.m. – Creekside Crawfish

•6-6:45 p.m. – Gypsy and Me

•7-7:45 p.m. – Josh Carter and Owen Grooms of Pretty Little Goat

•8-8:45 p.m. – Carolina U-Turn

•9-9:45 p.m. – 3000 Souls

Additionally, the festival will offer activities for children, raffle drawings for items and services donated by businesses in Transylvania County and Western North Carolina.

There will also be a silent auction for several items, also donated by local businesses.

Attendees may purchase Jameson’s Joy products and merchandise of the musical performers.

Lola’s Old Hickory House will cater the event with $10 plates of barbecue, beans, coleslaw and a roll, with proceeds benefiting Jameson’s Joy.

Upcountry Brewery and Magpie Meat & Three, both located in the Brevard Lumberyard Arts District, will also donate a portion of sales from the event to the foundation.

Other food vendors also will be on site.

While admission to the festival is free, donations are encouraged and appreciated.

Recommended minimum donations are $10 for under two hours, $20 for two to four hours and $40 for all day.

Volunteers are also being sought to help at the festival in two-hour shifts. Volunteer opportunities include set-up and clean-up crews, silent auction and raffle management, supervision of kids’ activities, merchandise sales and entry table assistance.

People or groups who would like to volunteer can do so by signing up for shifts through the SignUpGenius link found on the Jameson’s Joy Facebook page.

All proceeds from the Jameson’s Joy Music Festival will benefit Jameson’s Joy, a nonprofit foundation founded by Courtine and his wife, Erica, in memory of their late 9-year-old son, Jameson, who died unexpectedly after a short illness earlier this year. Jameson, a third grader at Brevard Elementary, where both of his parents are teachers, lived his life with a goal of spreading kindness to others.

According to Dan and Erica, Jameson showed love openly and was a great friend to many, offering a smile and friendship to new classmates, and volunteered happily for his church, in nursing homes and throughout his community.

The foundation that bears Jameson’s name is a 501(c)(3) with a volunteer Board of Directors dedicated to encouraging and instructing other organizations and communities worldwide on how to perform meaningful random acts of kindness.
