Canoe Relay Is Still Having Ripple Effects

Creative fundraising is nothing new in Transylvania County.

Many local bingo games, bake sales and yard sales address many community and individual needs. Larger-scale events, such as the Mountain Song Festival and the Pisgah Forest Rotary Club's Assault on the Carolinas, support many great causes.

This year, the leftover proceeds from the Hellbender 20-Mile Canoe Relay, sponsored by Headwaters Outfitters, were used for a project on the river.

It was a chance to have a direct positive impact on the French Broad River and to leave it in a better shape for all the river users.
