Paddling Pisgah: A Backcountry Gem

Pisgah National Forest is known for its greenery and gradient. Cascading creeks weave between a sea of rocky peaks, only interrupted by the occasional gravel road or forest path, yet otherwise this landscape breathes quiet. Much of the forest's visitors rarely stray from the paved arteries; parking lots, highways and overlooks.

For the Pisgah Ranger District within Transylvania County, Highways 276 and 215, along with the Blue Ridge Parkway host the majority of humans seeking respite from humid southern Appalachian summers. Hikers, equestrians and cyclists penetrate the forest a bit deepe...
