Lake Toxaway School Reunion

The 27th Lake Toxaway School Reunion will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the old Lake Toxaway Community Center building. We will eat at noon. Bring a covered dish and non-alcoholic drinks. Eating utensils will be provided. If you have photos or memorabilia from school days or reunions, bring items to share with classmates.

Tiger Sports

The RHS Tiger football team will host Robbinsville this Friday. Kick off is 7:30 p.m.

The Tiger JV football team will host Cherokee this Thursday. Kick off is 6 p.m. RYF football teams will host TCR this Saturday. Games start at noon. This will be their Homecoming game. Tiger volleyball teams travel to Cherokee Oct. 1 and will host Hayesville Oct. 3. JVs start at 5 p.m.

Heritage Day

Rosman’s Heritage Day will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5. It is sponsored by the town of Rosman and will be held on the grounds of Rosman Town Hall. The “Heritage Room” will feature displays of Rosman history and local families. Some historical quilts from the Rosman community will also be displayed in this room. Music will be presented by Diamond Dave and the Queen of Hearts, with Tim Stalcup on drums from 10:15 until 11:15 a.m.

A Veteran’s Memorial service will be held at 11:15 a.m. in the park area of Rosman Town Hall. New crosses made by William Cheatham’s high school welding classes in Edgefield, S.C., will be displayed and memorialize each Transylvania County veteran who died while in service. These crosses were funded, in part, by grants from the Transylvania County Tourism Development Authority. At noon, a special ceremony honoring the Rosman community’s senior citizens (80 and above). Also scheduled to be on display and to perform throughout the day will be the Gloucester Artillery. An auction, called by Berlis Owen, will be held from 12:45 p.m. to 2 p.m. The Hoodlum Cruisers Car Club will present a car show.

Activities for children (which are free) will include face painting, Thomas the Train and a larger train ride, a bounce house and Mark the Balloon Man. More than 20 vendors are expected to be present, including arts, crafts, jewelry, clothing, Pyrex, cast iron items, antiques, crafted furniture and much more. Hot dog and pork barbeque sandwiches and plates, lemon shake-ups and other items will be for sale.

Two sports tournaments will be held in the afternoon. A horseshoe tournament will begin at 1 p.m. at Town Hall. A corn hole tournament will also begin at 1 p.m. at Town Hall. Trophies will be presented after these events, and winners’ names will be announced in a ceremony at 3:30 p.m.

The public is invited to attend this special event.

Open House At Rosman Elementary

Open house at Rosman Elementary will be held this Thursday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Come out and meet your child’s teacher, see some of the children’s work and enjoy a pizza dinner with the school community.

Picture Day

Picture day at Rosman Elementary will be Oct. 9.

Walking Through The Bible – Trunk Or Treat

East Fork Baptist Church and several emergency service agencies are hosting a free drop-in event with candy and food, while walking through Bible Stories from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31.

Benefit Bingo

A benefit bingo will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, at Lake Toxaway Community Center for Jacqueline Holden, who is fighting ovarian cancer. Chili, soups and cornbread will be sold at 4 p.m. and followed by bingo at 6 p.m. They have great bingo and raffle prizes, so please go up and help this sweet lady and her family.

RHS Classes

The RHS class of 1961 meets at 9 a.m. every third Tuesday of the month for breakfast at The Country Skillet. The RHS class of 1962 meets the first Thursday of each month at The Country Skillet. The RHS class of 1963 meets at 9 a.m. on the second Thursday at the Skillet. The RHS class of 1964 meets at 5 p.m. on the second Friday of the month at the Skillet.

Food Pantry

Zion Baptist Church holds a food pantry the third Saturday of each month. No screening involved. Please feel to come get food.


Birthday wishes go out to Denise Pace, Stephanie Tesnow, Dick Phillips, Steve Crabtree, Annette McCall, Kansas Jones and Christy Rice who all have birthdays this week.
