Increase Mental Health Funding

In 2010, the state of North Carolina identified 13 major health focus areas and established 41 measureable goals. The state used 2008 as its baseline data point and 2020 as its target year.

Of the 41 goals set, only six had been met as of last July. None of the four goals related to mental health had been reached. In fact, as of last July, all four of the mental health indicators have gotten worse, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

For example, the state had a suicide rate of 12.4 people per 100,000 residents in 2008. The goal was to decrease it to 8...
