Legionnaires' Outbreak May Have Started In Davis Center – Transylvania County

As of Friday, 128 people, including three in Transylvania County, are confirmed to have either Legionnaires’ disease or Pontiac fever, two illnesses caused by Legionella bacteria.

Last week, the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services reported the update, as well as the news that the outbreak may have started in Davis Event Center during the Mountain State Fair, which took place Sept. 6 –15.

Preliminary findings indicate that people who were diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease were much more likely to have visited the Davis Event Center while at the fair and much more likely...
