John Floyd Dills Jr.

John Floyd Dills Jr., 86, passed away Oct. 4, 2019.

His parents were the late John Floyd Dills and Zena Dills. He was the only son with nine sisters.

He attended Brevard High School and graduated from Swannanoa High School.

He proudly served as a United States Marine.

He was employed by General Motors in Detroit and retired from Ecusta in 1998 after 42 years. He served as the chairman of the COPE Committee for the United Paper Workers local 1971.

His parents, his wife, Mary Bagwell Dills, and seven sisters preceded him in death.

Survivors include his sons Jim Dills (Sheri), and Keith Dills (Myla); grandson, John Parker; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

He and his wife, Mary, moved to Fletcher, but their hearts remained firmly in Transylvania County. He enjoyed lunch at the Pisgah Fish Camp, visiting family and friends.

He loved to hunt and fish, and raise cattle. An avid reader, he thoroughly enjoyed classic westerns and was a die-hard Braves fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandson, and his little Pomeranian dog, Trouble.

Funeral services will be held at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, from 12 to 1 p.m., with the funeral immediately following.

Interment will be in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory, with military rites conducted by the United States Marine Corp and the Transylvania County Honor Guard.
