Cat Café Is A Special Place

October 7, 2019

My name is Aziyah Brookman. I am currently 15 years old. Last summer, my sister Miyanna, 13, and I traveled to Brevard to visit my grandparents. During my time spent there, my sister and I were delighted to hear about a local cat café. Owning three cats of our very own, we were more than happy to volunteer and work with Erica Erickson.

I recall the first time I stepped into the cat room and feeling as if my day had gotten significantly brighter. The cats were very social and happy. I was also surprised by the cleanliness of the place and the lack of smell. The cat litter was cleaned regularly. This was made sure of by the volunteers and Erica herself.

If there is one moment I can truly highlight, it would be when I first met Todd. Todd was a small light-ginger Tom that had recently overcome an eye infection. One of the volunteers had a special connection with the cat. It was adorable to watch them interact. Todd was there for a majority of the time I was volunteering. I watched as Erica would personally medicate Todd and give him a look over. Erica knew every cat’s name and would even allow the volunteers to name some of the kittens. Pisgah Paws Café is a place I won’t forget anytime soon.
